MEET DR.ELIZABETH LEE MIZELLE

I am a board certified Family Doctor on a mission to cultivate inclusive health & wellness communities. My professional interests include health focused interior design, teaching about food as medicine, and health equity for historically oppressed groups. While I love affecting change in the medical office, having this platform has allowed me to inspire so many people around the world to explore their own wellness journey. Through my own healing journey and medical education, I now incorporate plant-based nutrition, slow living, and herbalism to my lifestyle medicine toolbox. I am licensed in N.C. as well as T.X. where I started my first practice. I am married to Dr. Richard Mizelle, Jr., a professor and historian of race & medicine.

All of the content in this blog is my personal opinion and not meant for medical advice.

Be The Lily.

In February 2022, I found myself feeling very low in mental and physical energy and went on a release retreat in Costa Rica. While discussing my overwhelming stress level and ailments, a healer encouraged me to “be the lily”. She was referring to the majesty in which the freshwater plant stems up from its floating leaves (lily pad) and blossoms gracefully into a fragrant solitary flower while floating upon a murky swamp. As soon as she said it, her suggestion hit me like a ton of bricks. What’s more is that the name Lily has held a special place in my heart being the names of both my grandmother and great aunt – to whom I’m told I bare a striking resemblance. When I returned home, I booted up my computer to discover a log-in screen featuring a lily as my new operating system. I’ve often wondered what the voice of God sounds like, and this experience made it clear that when you release the burdens causing low vibrations, you can hear God’s messages clear as day. I immediately retired my previous blog (Red Lips White Coat) and ushered in Be The Lily as my new mantra, lifestyle, blog, and brand.

I’m on a mission to Be The Lily. You should be too.

Although I make the disclaimer that this is a blog for entertainment purposes, I share my personal stories and photos as a means of my own healing and creative expression with hopes that I will introduce readers to forms of health and wellness they had not considered or perhaps forgotten.

Let’s get the party started early and start claiming our lily status. Here’s my statement: I love myself because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I acknowledge my divine feminine energy, and I embrace every detail about my unique earthly vessel in which my spirit lives. I am a doctor, entrepreneur, and an artist. I release all shame and guilt. I choose to step into my highest potential. I put God first and claim the victory over my obstacles. I choose to rise above murky circumstances to blossom like the lily.

Now, it’s your turn. What’s your statement?

The Lily often signifies purity, rebirth, transformation, devotion, royalty.

Water lilies are beloved for their colorful and exotic-looking blooms, but they are more than just pretty plants. They also contribute to pond health…they shade the water and keep it cooler…water lilies also shelter fish from birds of prey.
